  • A two-day workshop on the theme “Eco-Tourism for Sustainable Development and Gender Empowerment in South Asia” began in Thimphu, today.

  • The lemongrass cooperative in Monggar is finding it difficult to retain its members. Members have been leaving the group to work in construction sites, where they are paid more. From 170 members in 2007, the cooperative group is now left with only 45 members.

  • To support the government in enhancing conservation management plan, the Bhutan Trust Fund for Environmental Conservation officially handed over a fund worth over Nu.63mn to the government, today.

  • A 23-year-old woman from Tsirang died after she was washed away by Barsa River in Pasakha, Phuentshogling. The incident happened this morning when the deceased and her friend were crossing the river, on their way to work. According to the deceased’s friend, the deceased dropped her purse in the river and while trying to pick it up, she was washed away. The body was recovered from about a kilometre downstream. Police ruled out any foul play.

  • Currently, there are over 24,000 civil servants in the country, out of which more than 1,200 are continuing their education in Sherubtse College, the Royal Thimphu College and in College in India.
