Explosives worth about Nu.100,000 has been lying in a room near the Jigme Chhoeling Gewog Centre in Sarpang Dzongkhag for the last seven months. A few people, living nearby, say it undermines their safety.
A class 10 student, who was among those abducted in Sarpang, has decided to drop this year’s semester. Pranab Subba, 17, who was kept confined by the abductors across the border for a month, said he has missed many classes because of which he may not be able to perform his broad exam well.
Bhutan’s arm forces are now participating in United Nations peacekeeping missions, the first of its kind for Bhutan. Two officers from the Royal Bhutan Army and one officer from the Royal Body Guard left the country to serve as peacekeepers in the Middle East and Africa. The assignments will mark the first and historic participation of Bhutanese Armed Force officers as UN peacekeepers.
